In Memory Of

Good bye Dixon!

Dixon Solid Clue lovingly called, Baby Dixon,
left us to join God's Great Heard, on February 4, 2012.
He was a horse still in the prime of him life.  He died of
a sudden, unexpected case of colic caused by a
displaced colon.
In the years that Dixon spent with me he taught that
patience and persistence always win out over
over pushiness or harshness.  When I thought I knew
everything about training horses, he taught me how to
be humble.  The lessons and love he shared with me
will be with me forever, as he joins the heard of
memories that runs through the hole in my heart.
Although I grieve for him now, the memories he  has
left me hold me strong in my convictions and the
lessons he taught me reach out and touch the heart
of others.  Goodbye my Baby Dixon.
Thank you for giving me a clue!
Leslie Roach
Condolences to Pete!

Idaho Sarah
It is never easy to say goodbye to someone you love.  It seems that lately I have to do it far too often.  You all know that on April 12, 2011 I lost by beloved horse Ackshun. Now on June 12, 2011 my dear friend Sarah has gone to join him.  Sarah was diagnosed with terminal cancer 5 years ago.  We were told that if she was lucky she would live 6 months.  We put her out to pasture with our stud Oran it was a large pasture with fruit trees and a deep creek.  We were told that in her condition she would not become pregnant.  To every one’s surprise Sara not only had 5 more good years, but in September of 2008 she gave birth to a baby boy named Rocket.  Sarah was a blond Roan Belgian.  She pulled wagons and gave rides to children.  I think she stepped on everyone I know at least once.  She laid in her favorite place and fell asleep in the sun.  When she awoke she was with God.
I will miss her.

In Memory of Ackshun
When one of my beloved horses leaves me to go to God's Great Heard,
I try to remember and share some of the joy they brought to our lives.
On April, 12, 2011 my best friend, of 22 years, took his final journey.
Ackshun was a small, bay Arab, who loved me no matter what
stupid thing I had done.  He taught me about understanding, and forgiveness.
From him, I learned to be a person of caring respect.
I will remember him for all time.
I will miss him everyday of my life.
His memories fill the hole in my heart that I fear will never heal.
Goody bye My Love, Good bye My Ackshun.

In Memory of Zak
The things we do for ourselves die with us.  The things we do for others live on for all time.  My dear friend Zak went to join God’s great herd on March 13, 2010 at .  He was 38 years old.
Rescued horses generally come with a lot of baggage.  Zak came with fear, pain and mistrust of mankind.  I used to call him Montana because that was where he would head if he saw me with a halter.  Zak was with us for over a year before he deemed us worthy of his trust.  Soon after he became the rescuer.  He taught over 100 children to ride with such gentle grace.  He would be very careful to never frighten them.  Zak showed me how to leave the past behind and to love with a open heart.  I will forever miss him but the lessons he taught me will live on for all time.

In Memory of Beauty

We have been doing horse rescue and rehab long enough that we stopped counting the years.  New Options has helped so many wonderful horses and we have learned more about forgiveness, love and understanding from them than can ever be put into words.

I would like to tell you about Beauty.  She is an older, (we don’t know how old), quarter horse mare.  Three years ago her owner called me with a profound sadness in his voice as he talked of his old mare.  Somehow she had gotten in with a stud.  Who knew a mare that old could become pregnant and give birth to a healthy baby boy.  Having a foal late in life took a lot out of Beauty.   She lost not only condition but also her teeth. The man she belonged to tried everything he could think of to help but to no avail.  Then he heard about us and the work we do.  He called and asked for our help to save his beloved mare.  We had little hope for Beauty.  She was thin and weak and was still nursing her foal.  Over the next year with softened food and lots of supplements her weight came back.  The foal was weaned and healthy but something still was wrong.  Having and nursing a foal at her age was demanding and in order to care for him she had pulled too much from herself.  She not only lost her teeth, but her bones became brittle and weak.

Beauty has been with us for three years and her hip sockets have begun to give out.  For the past month we have tried joint supplements of every kind.  Now she is on pain meds daily and has lost the use of her left rear leg.  I see the pain in her eyes and I know she needs my help one last time.

Today I embrace the things she has taught me and I shed a tear as we say our goodbyes.  We will miss her.  I know she will be happy in heaven.  God needed a good horse in his heavenly herd.

After Rehabilitation

We rarely display "Before" pictures out of respect for the horses.  Following is an example of the condition of horses when we rescue them.  Not all rescues' conditions are the result of neglect.  Beauty's owner truly loved her.

His Honor shines

R&R New Options Equine has gained a lot of respect over the years for the work we do giving help to horses in need. I truly believe that these wonderful animals do more for us than we will ever be able to repay. It is with a heavy heart that I share with you a little bit about one of the best, Ghosts Skippen Pizazz.
When Zazz first came into our care he was a timid foal, just a few weeks old (we rescued him along with his mother, a Red Roan Appy and his father a Paint Breeding Stock Stud). I have never seen a horse with so much or so many colors!
Zazzes coat brought to mind the flashy fireworks you see on the Fourth of July, yet He wanted nothing more than to please everyone. Zazz excelled not only as a student but also as a teacher, teaching trust and understanding to the newly rescued horses. He also taught patience and forgiveness to all the people around him.
Three weeks ago Zazz got his left hind leg caught in a nylon cord that was put up. The injury was severe, cutting all of the tendons and exposing a large piece of his bone. Pizazz faced his painful injury with dignity and trust. He stood quietly on his three working legs while the vet worked on him. He allowed us to hold up the bad leg and get him into the barn. Despite all of the antibiotics, and dailly care, his wound became steadily worse.
When it came time to leave his pain and struggle behind, our sweet Zazzer went without fear to join God's Heavenly Herd.
Zazz brought to us so much joy and love in his six short years, he will never be forgotten and he will be forever missed!
